History behind the Smart Ladies Foundation
Smart Ladies Foundation began in 2010 after our founder, Mercy Adjei-Poku, met a 14-year-old boy living and working in the Dome Market, Accra. He had lost his mother, been abandoned by his father, and dropped out of school to survive on the streets. His story was heartbreaking—but sadly, not uncommon.
That moment sparked a mission to support vulnerable children, especially girls, who are often left without care, education, or opportunity. What started as one act of compassion has grown into a foundation committed to transforming lives through educational support programs, Skills/Vocational Training, and empowering women and children.
We believe every child deserves more than survival—they deserve a future full of hope and possibility.
